Apis has placed an iinovative, healthy snack on the market: some new turkey spreads announced as the 2017 “Flavour of the Year”.
The product, in line with the preferences of the healthy food market, was developed as an innovative and healthy alternative to traditional pâtés. These new low-fat spreads have a higher nutrient content whilst retaining their flavour. Each 160g glass package contains a mix of contemporary flavours that go perfectly with the turkey. Turkey spread, turkey with quinoa and turkey with figs: these three products meet the specific demands of increasingly health-conscious consumer, who appreciate the importance of the environment and love natural ingredients.
For the purpose of developing a product that addresses their current needs, Apis carried out an indepth study on consumer behaviour. In this way, after the establishment of new diversification and innovation strategies, the company fully fits with the market preferences.
In fact, 87 percent of consumers who tried the product say that they would buy more than one flavour and, among them, the turkey spread and the turkey with quinoa obtained the highest marks at a sensory level, which is associated to a higher purchase intent.
According to a study by the Extremaduran manufacturer, 25- to 45-year-old consumers say that Apis’ turkey spreads are low-fat, healthy snacks that enable them to enjoy delicious tastes and a smooth texture without losing the flavour.
After launching the turkey spreads, Apis, which has one of the Europe’s largest and most innovative meat factories and processes more than seven million kilograms of product each year, plans to further reinforce innovation in production and flavour in the comng years.

Apis strengthens its position in the tomato market and Alimarket echoes it.
APIS ended the last fiscal year (2016) with a rising turnover and an over double-digit growth in the traded volume, which allows for the enhancement of its leadership in the natural tomato sector in accordance with current market-sharing.
Therefore, and with the aim of supporting this growth, the company has also planned for this year an additional investment of approximately 200,000€ in specialized machinery – ultimately, mixers and minor equipment.
In 2016, the same amount was already established for the improvement and expansion of the capacity of the company’s product line for Horeca.
Specifically, the division earned 10 million euros during that period, which is an almost 17% increase in relation to the 8.5 million received in 2015. In terms of volume, the company sold 16,000 tons between crushed tomato, minced natural tomato and whole tomatoes, all under Apis’ scope, 24.5% more and about 3,200 tons more than the previous year.
As part of its announced strategy to reduce the presence of private labels in the company’s accounts, Carnes y Vegetales limited the quantity of natural tomatoes intended for supplying private labels to 20%, as against 31% in 2015, being Carrefour one of its major clients. Regarding the channels, the self-service remains in the forefront, concentrating 91% of sales, followed by Horeca (7%) and the traditional channel (2%), although the company is also testing online sales through its own online shop and the world’s biggest e-commerce company, Amazon.
Its latest market innovations were precisely intended to meet the recent demands on convenience and more natural products by launching a new range of organic crushed tomato and an innovative packaging line (carton).

A new APIS product, which will be available soon, was announced as the 2017 “Flavour of the Year” and short-listed for the AGROEXPO innovation award.
In less than a month, it won two innovation awards.
It is an innovative product that follows the trends of a market that is increasingly concerned about health care. Superfoods and specific products for allergic people are the most popular.
Consumers look for more nutritious recipes, as well as a return to the roots in manufacturing processes.
The healthy attribute has not prevented meat consumption from falling, while turkey has escaped from this trend, becoming the new leading category in the market.
As happens every year, Apis attended the International Agroexpo Fair, which took place from the 25th to the 28th of January in FEVAL, in the Spanish city of Don Benito, province of Badajoz. It is one of the most emblematic events in the agricultural sector held in more than 25,000 square meters where 500 brands, both national and international, present their new products and most innovative challenges.
During the event, besides our traditional products, Apis presented Suavittas, our new launch, that is, new delicious low-fat, gluten-free turkey spreads with a high protein content.
